In this tutorial we will show some efficient ways to target notifications for users that are not very active in your app, thus trying to "wake them up" by push notifications.

  1. Compose your message
  2. Create a new segment
    1. Set a name and description
      1. Option 1 : Use Last Activation tag
      2. Option 2 : Use the Last Notification Opened tag
      3. Option 3 : Combine options 1 and 2
  3. Send the notification and view the performance

Compose your message

Choose your app, go to the Main tab and compose your message with all of your relevant features as seen in Sending notifications, and choose By Segments in the To Whom? section:

Create a new segment

After selecting the By Segments radio button, you need to create the segment that will target your abandoning users.

Set a name and description

Set a name that will identify this segment, and a description that will help to remember where is this segment targeting to later on.

Option 1 : Use Last Activation tag

You can identify the abandoning users by deciding that an abandoned user is a user that hasn't open the app from a specific date.Click in Choose Tag and select the Last Activation tag, this tag is of Date type, and is created automatically by the system once you upload the application. Every device that uses our mobile SDK will automatically register for this tag once installing or upgrading to the first version that uses our mobile SDK.

Now set the segment for ones that didn't register for the tag from a specific date and on:

Option 2 : Use the Last Notification Opened tag

You can also use the last date the user has opened a push notification, as an indication for the user being an active user or not, this is also a tag which is provided automatically by our service.

Again, set the segment for users that didn't register for this tag from a specific date and on:

Option 3 : Combine options 1 and 2

Why not set a stronger or a wider segmentation with this 2 tags combined? If you want a stronger segmentation select the AND condition between them, and if you want a wider segmentation select the OR condition between them. Here is an example for the OR condition:

Send the notification and view the performance

To send this notification as an immediate one, you just need to click on Click To Push It!

Now you have successfully created the notification.

You can now go to the statistics tab to view the notification's performance.
